Visitors Frequently Asked Questions
  1. What is Toastmasters? It's an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with their speaking, leadership, and communication skills. Toastmasters can help you lose your fear of public speaking and improve skills you need to advance in your career. You can get started by attending a local Toastmasters meeting.
  2. What is the cost? There is no charge for you to visit a meeting. An optional meal at La Madeleine ranges from $5.00 to $10.00.
  3. What is the dress? Casual, business casual, or business attire.
  4. Will I be called on during the meeting? Visitors do not have to speak during the meeting. At the end of the meeting, you will be welcomed, introduced, and given the opportunity to say a few words if you choose. (Willing visitors may participate in the Table Topics portion of our meeting.)
  5. Who are your club members? Members range in age from 20s to 60s and are from many different professions and cultures. We are from all over the metroplex.
  6. Do I have to be single to attend? Not at all! Many members are married, and both single and married participants are more than welcome.
  7. Do you have social events? Yes! Join us for Post-Toasties after meetings. We hang out, drink, eat, and chat informally to get to know each other better. We also have periodic parties, dinners, movies, outings and more. Visit our social page for more information.
  8. How many people attend your meetings? On average, we have 15-25 people attend our meetings each week.
  9. How many people do you have in your club? We average 25-35 members. In our club, there are enough members so that duties are spread among many participants, but not too many so that it is intimidating. We recommend that you join a club that is at least "charter-strength" size (at least 20 members, according to Toastmasters International).
  10. What happens when I first walk in to the meeting? You will be greeted by a member, asked to sign our visitor roster, and given a name tag. Any questions you have about the meeting will be answered. You'll have a chance to meet and talk with several of our members. Our primary goal is to put you at ease, because we've all been in your shoes, walking into a new club and perhaps seeing a Toastmasters meeting for the first time. By the end of the meeting, most visitors tell us how much fun they had.
  11. When and where do you meet? We meet every Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at La Madeleine French Bakery, 5290 Beltline Rd in Addison, Tx.
